PADI Rescue Diver: Become the Buddy Everyone Wants to Dive With

During your dives, have you ever asked yourself, “What would I do if something went wrong?” It’s a critical question, and the PADI Rescue Diver course is designed to give you the answer. This isn’t just another skills course; it’s a transformation in mindset—turning you from a diver focused on your own dive into a capable, aware, and supportive buddy.

At Amadive, we believe this is the most challenging, yet most rewarding, course a recreational diver can take. PADI often describes it as “Serious Fun,” and you will quickly understand why.

Why Should You Become a Rescue Diver?

The primary goal of this course isn’t to perform dramatic rescues. The main objective is to equip you with the knowledge to prevent problems from happening in the first place. You will learn:

  • Self-Rescue: The most important skill to ensure your own safety.
  • Recognizing and Managing Stress in Others: Spot the early signs and intervene before they escalate into major problems.
  • Emergency Management: Stay calm, assess the situation, and act methodically.
  • Becoming a Better Buddy: You will become the person everyone feels safe and confident diving with.

The Core Skills You Will Master

The PADI Rescue Diver course is built around realistic scenarios that help you apply theory to practice. Some of the key skills include:

  • Rescuing and assisting tired or panicked divers on the surface.
  • Handling an unresponsive diver underwater and at the surface.
  • Searching for a missing diver.
  • Administering emergency oxygen.
  • Preparing an emergency action plan for a dive site.

Prerequisites: Are You Ready?

To enroll in the Rescue Diver course, you need to:

  1. Be a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another organization).
  2. Be at least 12 years old.
  3. Have completed Emergency First Response (EFR) Primary and Secondary Care training within the last 24 months.

Important Note on EFR: This is a land-based first aid and CPR course that gives you essential life-saving skills for general emergencies. Amadive offers the EFR course, and you can complete it right before or concurrently with your Rescue Diver course.
